Apply
STEP 1: READ THIS INFO PACKET
Download this detailed description of the workshop (very, very detailed) by clicking on the link above. This packet includes information both about traveling to Guatemala -- booking flights, weather, what to bring -- and about the workshop process itself. Please read it all before you make the decision to apply.
STEP 2: READ THIS Q & A PACKET
Every year, potential participants have many of the same questions, so here’s a list of answers.
STEP 3: SUBMIT WRITING SAMPLE & PERSONAL GOAL STATEMENT
Send a short sample of your writing (no more than 1,000 words) by email, with a letter telling about yourself and your hopes for the workshop, so that the staff can ensure the group is one in which everyone's goals are compatible. Accepting applications from July 1, 2009 onward.
STEP 4: SPREAD THE WORD
Please feel free to download the recent Workshop 2010 Flyer and forward it on to other writers who might be interested.
STEP 5: ACCEPTANCE
Once accepted, participants in the workshop will receive access to the “Participants 2010” site, a password protected site where you can interact with your fellow writers, keep up-to-date with a series of letters from Joyce, post your manuscript, and ask questions to Melissa Vincel (stateside-based assistant, bookkeeper, workshop participant from 2006, previous resident of San Marcos, and owner of a Guatemalan street dog). You will also receive instructions on where to send your $250 deposit, which is required in order to secure your place in the workshop.
